Thabang Nkuna, known by his stage name, Mickey Motswako, is a hip hop and rap artist. However, he also dips into Afro pop in his own unique way. Growing up in Ivory Park Ext 2 in Thembisa, the music producer got into music by listening to some rappers from his kasi. “There was a studio by my friend’s place, which was owned by his brother. I used to go and visit him there, and we would chill and just listen to them rappers freestyling, and I fell in love with it,” he tells The Olifants.
Mickey Motswako says he enjoys rap and anything that has to do with kasi rap; he can do. He sometimes delves into Afro pop and sometimes Lekompo, but has not released a Lekompo song as yet, but says he is working on it. “To be honest, I’m influenced by the likes of Marcus Hopsin, Emtee, Siya Shezi, Maseven, Fifi Cooper, Blaklez, Kwesta, and Eminem. They are the ones that made me be who I am musically,” he explains. The music creator has released some dope songs recently, which are available on all digital platforms. He released an EP called “Unexpected” as well as a few singles. Mickey Motswako has collaborated with the likes of Jaydee Boy and Cee Jay on the beats, a music producer he works with full-time. He also worked with Truth Rich Blaq and released some freestyles with Sudden Faith Entertainment. Other collaborators include Shockzin and his late brother, Hloniphani.”I’ve endured a lot over the years, and looking back at doing music for 11 years, I can proudly say I’ve mastered my pen game. I think the world should really lend me an ear and hear me out because I bring something unique,” he appeals. He has performed at the Supernova Show, Khanyile Hall, Dumezulu Lifestyle, and at Dawn Town Corner.
Though not on big stages, the talent got noticed. “I’m currently working on some freestyles for my TikTok followers and an EP called Ghetto Child, which I think will be a joint EP by me and Jaydee Boy. My plans for the future are to dominate the screens and spread my message throughout the whole world,” Mickey Motswako concludes.
