Ekurhuleni police tightens grip on crime

As part of the ongoing commitment to protect South African Citizens, the SAPS and other law enforcement agencies in Ekurhuleni Policing Precincts conducted operations from Friday, 2025-10-10 to Sunday, 2025-10-12 morning under the banner of Operation Shanela II. These operations focused on priority crimes across the district and aimed to stamp the authority of the state. Two firearms were removed from the streets in Ekurhuleni, and 3 illegal liquor outlets were shut down.The Detectives across Ekurhuleni Policing Precincts managed to arrest 167 suspects while tracing the suspects on Saturday, 2025-10-11. Amongst the suspects, 86 were arrested for contact crime, 19 for contact-related Crime, 15 for property crime, 36 for other serious crime and 22 for Gender based violence.

In Tsakane on Friday, 2025-10-10 at 02:20, members of the Trio task Team and Crime Prevention Wardens were conducting stop and search duties when they stopped an African male and searched him. Upon the search, a 9mm pistol was found on his hip. When asked about the license, he told the Police that he stole the firearm in Verina, Mpumalanga. The suspect was put under arrest and taken to SAPS Tsakane for detention. Another unlicensed firearm was recovered in Ivory Park on Saturday, 2025-10-11 at about 22:40, whereby two suspects were arrested. The Police were doing their normal patrol duties in the Kaalfontein area when they received a complaint about a hijacked motor vehicle. They gave chase, and the motor vehicle crushed the wall at Ebony Park.

Two suspects were arrested and 1x 9mm star Pistol, 9 live ammunition, a replica firearm and 8 blanks were recovered at the scene. The owner of the vehicle, who was kidnapped and hijacked in Germiston, was also found at that scene. Preliminary investigations revealed that the firearm was reported at SAPS Kempton Park last month, in September 2025. Both suspects were arrested and taken to SAPS Ivory Park for detention.Other suspects were nabbed for crimes such as possession of drugs, driving vehicles whilst under the influence of alcohol, public drinking and illegal immigrants. Ekurhuleni District Commissioner Major General Anna Sithole commended the persistent efforts of members in the struggle to fight against crime and put crime to a minimum in the District.
