Executive Mayor Xhakaza Participated in the C40 Africa Regional Convening at the World Mayors Summit in Rio de JaneiroExecutive Mayor Nkosindiphile Xhakaza joined an esteemed panel of African city leaders at the C40 World Mayors Summit’s “Africa Regional Convening” — co-chaired by Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyer of Freetown and Mayor Sadiq Khan of London.

The session brought together the Mayors of Accra, Freetown, Johannesburg, Tshwane, the Deputy Mayors of Cape Town and Durban, the Vice President of Casablanca, and the Deputy Mayor of Dakar.The roundtable focused on unlocking climate finance for African cities, strengthening public-private partnerships, and developing innovative green financing mechanisms to drive sustainable urban transformation.

Mayor Xhakaza shared Ekurhuleni’s progress in building bankable green projects and reaffirmed the City’s commitment to creating a resilient, inclusive, and low-carbon economy that benefits all residents.
