MAJOR ARRESTS AS EKURHULENI CLEANS STREETS

Ekurhuleni District Commissioner, Major General Anna Sithole, expressed gratitude after 222 suspects were arrested, an illegal firearm was removed from the streets, and an illegal liquor outlet was closed between Friday, 24, and Sunday, 26 October 2025, across the Ekurhuleni District.

Among the arrested suspects, 124 were nabbed by Detectives across the district for contact crimes, contact-related crimes, other serious crimes, and gender-based violence.In the Sebenza area, on Friday, 24 October 2025, at about 11:30, police responded to a complaint of attempted armed robbery on Beech Street, Cresslawn, where suspects driving a silver Polo attempted to commit a robbery. Police immediately began searching for the vehicle and spotted it around Cresslawn. When officers tried to stop it, the driver sped off toward Zuurfontein Road, leading to a chase.

Three suspects exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Two were shot at, while one managed to escape with a gunshot wound.Police arrested the remaining two suspects, aged 40 and 43, one of whom had a leg wound. A Glock Austria firearm with ten rounds of ammunition was recovered from the suspects.

Both will face charges of attempted armed robbery, attempted murder, and possession of an unlawful firearm.
