Tshepo Mnisi, known by his stage name, DJ Trey, is a dynamic Hip Hop, R&B, and Afrobeat DJ and producer. Hailing from Soweto, he was raised in the East Rand. His passion for music was ignited early at the vibrant Phomolong community, and he blossomed through his active participation in local events.

DJ Trey’s style is inspired by his deep roots in the East Rand communities, where he was immersed in the rich culture of Hip Hop and rap from a young age. His early exposure to music at Phomolong Primary School and involvement in local activities helped shape his passion. In 2025, he started touring with influential South African artists, including BigStar Johnson, Shane Eagle, JimmyWiz, and Rouge, which further influenced his sound, blending authentic local Hip Hop vibes with contemporary production techniques.

His fusion of grassroots influence and professional experience is what defines his music. In 2018, DJ Trey was invited to the Cannes, France Midem Artists Accelerator Showcase Tour, which provided him with valuable exposure to the international music scene. This also served to refine his performance skills and deepen his understanding of the music industry. This experience played a significant role in shaping his professional growth and artistic style.

DJ Trey’s unique sound and skilled performances continue to captivate audiences both locally and internationally, earning him a respected place in the South African Hip Hop scene. His career highlights include performing at major events such as Back To The City, Maftown Heights, Pop Bottles, Cotton Fest, Tribe Nation, and many more.
