Nomalungelo Mthimunye is a South African woman and mother from Ivory Park Ext 9, Thembisa, who is an advocate for community healing and involved in empowerment participation in the GBVF National Shutdown protest, which was held on 21 November.
“I felt a deep responsibility to show up — loudly, visibly, and unapologetically — during the national call for action. I attended the protest to amplify the voices of women who are often silenced, and to stand in solidarity with the many families affected by gender-based violence.” She says.Noma, as she is affectionately known, firmly believes that her story and the content captured on the day can contribute meaningfully to the national conversation. She recorded videos and photographs that clearly reflect her commitment, emotional experience, and her efforts to be heard by the government, which highlight a powerful personal perspective that could strengthen the fight against GBVF.
“GBVF is not just a trend — it’s an ongoing crisis. And while public attention is still focused on this protest. My goal is simple: to make sure the message of the 21 November protest does not fade away before real change happens.” Said Noma.
